Upon tidy up my old files after shifting house, I came across a letter form my late dad which was written to me on the 22nd May 1989. I deeply regretted for ignoring his letter earlier and doesn’t take an effort to fulfill his wish. So decided to publish his letter in my blog for my readers viewing and comments.
Dear Ruslie, I am sending you herewith a short essay both in English and Malay for publication in Berita Harian and the New Straits Times in the open letter or open forum column. The incident referred to really happened in March 1988 and should be ideal for the nation building campaign now in full swing.
You try to contact a New Straits Times reporter or a Berita Harian reporter and let him publish it or failing that you just write a covering letter to the Editor of the newspaper concerned enclosing the story.
At present I am writing a story of my experience during the 14 days of the Bintang Tiga, the militant arm of the Communist Party when they ran havoc, committing rape and murder everywhere. That happened in August 1945.
I took part in the incident when I joined a party of young men who took over the Police Station in Kuala Trengganu and controlled the Kuala Trengganu town area, thus forestalling the communist attempt to take over the country’s administration.
Unfortunately our effort was useless for Sultan Ali came to the Police Station during the night and ordered us to hand over the Police Station to the Bintang Tiga on the pretext to avoid blood shed.
This story will be ready in about 2 weeks. How are you getting on? Give my salam and also Mak Da’s salam to Intan and the children. May God bless you and the family.
Yours ever,
